Dresden, Germany; Cambridge, UK – 3rd September 2007 - Plastic Logic announced today the appointment of Konrad Herre as Vice President, Manufacturing for Dresden operations. Mr. Herre will be responsible for the Plastic Logic team in Dresden and oversee the extensive ramp-up, as well as the subsequent production process in the Dresden fab, including business partnerships. Mr. Herre’s appointment marks a decisive step in the intensive build up of Plastic Logic’s German subsidiary. Following the laying of the foundation stone in May and last month’s topping-out ceremony, the construction of the production facilities is well on the way to completion in December of this year.
Having held several positions in large, international microelectronics companies, Mr. Herre brings vast experience in the world of semiconductor manufacturing to Plastic Logic. Previously President and COO of X-FAB Semiconductor Foundries, Vice President Production Logistic Fiber Optics with Infineon and most recently COO and member of the Managing Board of ZMD AG as well as President of ZFOUNDRY, Mr. Herre was responsible for large-scale production facilities (including manufacturing, back-end and test) as well as technology development and relations with customers and strategic partners. Furthermore, he has great experience in team management, having managed organisations with over 1500 employees.
“Konrad’s significant experience in this field and in the management of large teams across Europe will be a great advantage for the company,” stated John Mills, Chief Operating Officer at Plastic Logic. He added, “I am delighted to welcome him to the company. Plastic Logic has been growing at an exceptional rate in the past year and is seeking world-class people across the globe to work in a variety of roles and Konrad is a prime example of this. The company plans to employ 150 people in the new Dresden facility by 2009. We are all very much looking forward to working together with him.”

"The world's first commercial scale plastic electronics manufacturing facility is now open," said Plastic Logic CEO Richard Archuleta. "Today marks an extraordinary achievement for our company and the plastic electronics industry. It also marks a major milestone in preparation for the delivery of our first consumer electronics product early next year."
Plastic Logic's core technology solves the critical issue in manufacturing high-resolution transistor arrays on flexible plastic substrates using a low-temperature. The process is simpler than conventional glass silicon processes, and produces active matrix displays that are thinner, lighter and more robust than glass.
The Dresden factory is set to begin volume production of the display that is the key feature of Plastic Logic's forthcoming electronic reading product, scheduled to come to market in early 2009. Attendees at today's ceremony, including local and industry dignitaries, received a sneak preview of the product in addition to a view of the specialized factory.
• Advanced new processes and tools were specified, designed and created to successfully transfer proof of concept technology and processes first developed in Plastic Logic's Cambridge, UK research and development lab.
• Plastic Logic utilized a unique mix of standard production equipment from display manufacturing and other industries that were tailored to produce displays in high volumes at costs to give it significant competitive advantage.
• The factory was designed for flexibility and the capacity to produce hundreds of thousands of the displays annually.
Plastic Logic's Managing Director and Vice President of Manufacturing, Konrad Herre, said: "Our on-time opening of this first-of-its-kind facility was made possible by the ingenuity, dedication and tireless efforts of our employees both here and in the UK, our ability to enlist and collaborate with a group of world-class suppliers, and the strong commitment of German officials and our investors."
